Wii Rocks Grade 8 Leaders!
Technology Cpoordinator
for the Kent School District, Jeff Thungc, organized an
energy-filled Generation FIT training for a dozen reading,
language arts, health, PE and media specialists in early April
2008. The teachers were engrossed in a slide show that
synthesized the recent brain research of Dr. John Ratey
(SPARK) into a slide show that Generation FIT student leaders
use to teach their peers and teachers. It is often very
eye-opening for students and teachers to learn the direct
connection between aerobic and balance activity BEFORE a
cognitive task.
The slide
show is available on the web at BRAINY
STUFF.Students were selected from an 8th
grade reading class - one that was geared to help student be
more engaged in the learning process and improve their grade
level for reading skills. The teachers agreed that the
responsibility and leadership involved in Generation FIT was
as important as the eye-tracking, patterning and prediction
practice that Wii Sports afforded the youth. The
students enjoyed teaching peers how to create Miis and hone
some good sports skills - all in preparation for academic
success.

Here are some quotes from the
students:
"I created a mii and I out-boxed
everyone." Calvin
"Dance kept me on my toes and I actually
paid attention…hecka fun." Mercedes
