Faculty Wellness

 

An integral part of our Faculty Wellness program is GenXe3

Generation FIT students can easily be trained to mentor their teachers. This mentoring includes the following :

 

      Benefits

    1. Supporting teacher use of dance mat video games like DDR and active video games like Wii Sports as a choice instead of snacking or smoking during break, planning or lunch time
    2. Students learn how to support their teacher-mentees’ goals
    3. Goals may include: added at-school exercise opportunities to increase fun, fitness ,weight loss, energy and productivity
    4. If a teacher is trying to lose weight the student mentors can show how to arrange the game so you play until you burn your goal-number of calories
    5. If a teacher is trying to quit or reduce smoking, the student will teach how to use the active video games as a distraction and choice at times when a cigarette might be the existing habit
     

      Outcomes

    1. Using a software platform like Wii Sports or Wii Fitness, students will clamor to be mentors to their teachers  
    2. For about $500 a school can provide a motivation, team-building and wellness option for hard-working faculty
    3. Students, especially those most at-risk for negative behaviors, choices or health risks, become empowered resources for their school
    4. Reverse mentoring has social, leadership and academic benefits beyond the obvious fitness outcomes
